The Research, Planning and Technical Services Division grew during 2001. The Chief of Communications position was merged with this division, bringing with it the publications and legislative responsibilities.

In partnership with the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) and other state Housing Finance Agencies (HFAs), we have worked to secure co-sponsorship of some of Tennessee's congressional delegation in support of HR 951 and SB 677-The Housing Bond and Credit Modernization and Fairness Act of 2001. Also, in collaboration with HFAs from Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia, we planned and carried out the First Annual Appalachian Housing Summit to learn more about the special needs of that region and to explore new ways to address these needs.

As always the Research and Planning Division worked closely with all of THDA's program divisions on analyzing program activities and beneficiaries. This division also worked with other state departments to complete the 2001 State of Tennessee Action Plan and Annual Performance Report for housing and community development, as required by HUD.
